We are introducing Threads to the LBP Union's Discord community. Threads are a new feature that is being rolled out by Discord to help make talking in larger servers easier. However, we had to review this new feature in a lot of detail to decide how we wanted to incorporate it into our community. This post will explain how we intend to use threads on our server. To learn more about threads, check out this threads FAQ.
Objective
The objective of threads on our Discord server is to make chatting with others easier with temporary threads. We want to keep quality of conversation high and have threads that are genuinely useful to everyone. Some examples of threads that we support are questions of the day, events, mega-threads for breaking news, and voice chat groups.
Who Can Create Threads?
Threads can only be created by certain users in certain text channels. By default, the only threads that you can create are in the 'no-mic' channel. If you are in a voice chat, we encourage you to create your own thread so that others can join in on your conversation.
Threads in all other channels are managed by our Pathfinder team. Pathfinders can create, edit, and archive threads as needed. We are now doing question of the day threads in our general 'chat' channel. Pathfinders may create threads for events, breaking news, or other occasions where organizing the chat would be useful. We may also use threads to address certain questions and suggestion topics.
Nitro Booster and Activity Perks
Server team members are not the only ones who can create threads anywhere: Nitro Boosters and those level 15 or above in server experience can create threads! Those level 15 and above are automatically awarded the 'Curator' role by the Mee6 bot. We encourage you to follow the example of our server team when creating threads, although silly threads in our meme channel are also welcome!
Want to Create a Thread?
If you want to create a thread, first consider whether or not it should be a forum post instead. You can always link people to your forum post in the chat and on social media. Forum posts can last longer than Discord threads and can reach a larger audience. You also don't need to be a Nitro Booster, level 15 user, or a team member to create them.
Thank you for being the best part of our community! If you have any feedback or questions on the new threads system, please leave a comment below!
