This is the official discussion thread for #ProjectLighthouse, the LBP Union's effort to develop open-source private servers for LittleBigPlanet.
To learn more about these custom LittleBigPlanet servers, check out our blog post about the most recent developments.
This thread is for questions and discussion about Lighthouse. Have you ever wondered if a favorite feature of yours will be included? What do you plan on doing on a private server? Do you want to host your own server, or will you only use trusted servers hosted by groups like LBP Union?
Project Lighthouse FAQ
Arcadius (USC Starblazer) Turecross (USC Starblazer) Jvyden (Lighthouse R&D Lead)
Q: Is Lighthouse public yet? A: We're currently beta testing the servers to make sure that they're ready and secure for launch. you can go enlist in the settings channel on our Discord server for a chance to join this beta test. Q: Why can't we use DNS? A: All LBP games (including PSP and Vita) by default connect to Media Molecule/Sumo Digital's servers over HTTPS, the location and connection method of which is stored in the game's EBOOT. The reason DNS doesn't work is because the game can't verify the custom server specified in DNS is actually Media Molecule/Sumo Digital's server because we do not have their private certificate (and I'm pretty sure it would be illegal to use that anyways :P). That's why we have to end up patching the EBOOT file. You will need to jailbreak your PS3 because there is no way to change it other than jailbreaking your PS3 and modifying that file. Q: Will Lighthouse support LittleBigPlanet Karting? A: No. since the games use completely different server structures, we aren't able to use lighthouse with LBPK Q: Are my old community levels and pictures gonna be on lighthouse? A: You'll have to reupload them, as we cannot just grab levels off sony's server and use them in our server Q: Will you be able to connect to Lighthouse on PS4? A: While it is technically possible, it is currently not possible to connect to PSN on a jailbroken PS4, and the homebrew community has expressed that they are not planning to make this possible.
