#LBPReflections: Happy Refoundation Day 2021!

Today we recognize eight years since the reformation of the LBP Union on December 14th, 2013. We’ve come a long way since that day as well as since the Union was first founded in 2009. More importantly, we have come a long way as a community, collecting many treasured memories that deserve to be remembered. Let’s talk about the conclusion of #LBPReflections, Refoundation Day, and where the Union is going next.

Conclusion of LBP Reflections

Beginning on November 29th, we started an event called LBP Reflections, inviting the community to look back on their favorite memories from the LittleBigPlanet servers that have now been discontinued on PlayStation 3 and Vita. This was done to encourage the community to hold onto the good that came from these servers and remind people that they will carry these memories with them forever.

There were a ton of great submissions, some silly and some wholesome. The best tweets from #LBPReflections were put into a collection on this page!

Editors Note: When this page was converted to WordPress the collection was lost, if I can I’ll fix it later.

Some of the best ones from years ago featured old friends hanging out. There’s a sense of bittersweetness when players once played with others but lose touch, never to hear from them again. Twitter user Shoopdahoop25 has been searching for an old friend named Baddud13 for quite some time now, going so far to change his handle to help catch the user’s attention if they’re still out there.

End of the Event

Unlike LBP Reconnected, Reflections was not a competitive event, so no winner was chosen. We are thankful for everyone who participated in celebrating the discontinued servers. Although they will not return for PS3 and Vita, those memories hold a special place in our hearts.

Hopefully, Lighthouse custom servers will allow us to make new memories as we play LittleBigPlanet together into the future!

LBP Union Refoundation Day 2021

Refoundation Day is an unusual holiday for LittleBigPlanet. It has its roots in a time when the Union was a bit misguided. Its leadership, including myself, looked toward the real world for inspiration and ideas on how to get groups of people to collaborate. Although its political focus had good intentions, the Union unfortunately was not very effective when it was reformed on December 14th, 2013.

The Union’s fictitious capital of Las Calles decorated for Refoundation Day.

However, the lessons that we learned during this time have continued to guide us even today. Through learning from our mistakes, we have learned how to better work together and reach our audience. We have gone from being a community platform to being a platform for communities.

We remember Refoundation Day because we want to respect and acknowledge where we came from, mistakes and all. And that doesn’t mean we didn’t make some genuinely good memories too along the way. The Union from 2013-2016 did do a lot of good things. The Master Creators Society in 2015 made an effort to help mentor creators to help realize their potential in the game.

Climbing into the Future

With Project Lighthouse well on the way, LittleBigPlanet’s community has a bright future ahead of it. These clean room custom servers will soon be ready for more open beta testing and then from there, who knows? What happens next is up to you.
